Problem Statement
Monshare started as a project with a friend when she noticed a gap in the market where people have to use spreadsheets to calculate total spent or do it manualy, for things what they do together.

We decided to create a personal finance platform for couples, roommates, friends, and everyone who spends money together. Where each user can see the total balance of all his accounts, knows how much money they spend with their partner for the last vacation, knows how much he owes and he is owed and other cool features.
Project Goals
Prepare personas, user journeys and mock-ups of the key flows to communicate product vision

Have everyone paid their fair share for our weekend picnic?

Challenges
As a Co-Founder and VP of User Experience, I participated in each stage of the development process: research, hire developers, create timelines, drive the design thinking and visuals, test the features of the app, work closely with our small development team to hit our deadlines.

Our primary focus was to launch a minimal valuable product within 10-12 months; design and development included. There was no time to waste, considering that we have a remote cross-functional international team and all team members had a full-time job. We manage to work together across multiple timezones using Slack, Google Hangouts and Jira.

My professional UX challenge is ensuring a simple and usable experience on every screen, while also allowing for multiple layers of content and navigation. Having come from B2B environment, I took some time to find the flows which would be important for the users.

We decided to create a web-based app to get the first feedback as soon as possible. When we started the design phase, I thought to myself how can we optimize this as much as possible for conversions and choose the Google Material design library.

Another challenge was defining the name of the app and a style.

The 1st name was - ManyPot, I tried to make a good logo, but couldn't catch the right "wave". We understood that we need something more simple, related to the key-words "money", "spend", "expenses", "share", "transfer". And I came up with the idea of "MonShare" = money share.
We have a focus group to help to decide on designs and journey, guys helped us to understand what flow and user interface more clear and valuable.

For example, we were debating what is the best UI for the Categories - list or grid. I created mockups and a prototype, sent to the focus group and they selected - a grid, later they asked to add the search functionality and I suggested to add a switcher "list/grid", so everybody can select the most comfortable view.

In November 2019, we participated in a Web Summit PITCH - a startup competition. https://vimeo.com/372044215

I prepared marketing materials for this event, including SWAP and Pitch deck design, and later marketing ads.
Results
Based on our research, user feedback and testing I improved the UX and the visual part: updated forms, added notifications, created onboarding screens.

As a finance app, it is in our best interest to optimize the experience so users are guided along the optimal path.

Within a few screens, we solved one of our major pain points - to share transactions with people, but also give the ability to group different categories into the one pot and calculating total balances.

In March 2020 the app was finally released into the wild.
We are looking forward to future releases that further expand the functionality of the app.
